“Flu vaccine may reduce risk of death for type 2 diabetes patients”

As medicine and technology advance more and more with each coming year, new strains of vaccines are invented in order to protect against various diseases. The flu vaccine has been available to the public since the 1900s, but new advancements in its potential benefits are still being discovered.

The Imperial College London recently published a study done on 124, 503 UK adults who had Type 2 diabetes. When compared to those who were not vaccinated, the vaccinated individuals had a reduced percentage of hospital admissions for stroke, heart failure, and pneumonia or influenza. The death rate of vaccinated diabetics was also 24 percent lower than diabetics who were not vaccinated. Even so, around one third of the English, diabetic population does not get vaccinated every year. Therefore, it is important that further research be done on this topic to expand the preliminary results.
